Estonia Attributes Milrem Robotics Arson Attack to Russian Services

The Government of Estonia formally attributed an August 15 arson attack on Milrem Robotics, a Tallinn-based defense contractor supplying unmanned ground vehicles to Ukraine, to the security services of the Russian Federation. Prime Minister Kristen Michal announced the finding on September 29, stating the conclusion was based on intelligence gathered by the Estonian Internal Security Service.

The Estonian Internal Security Service characterized the incident as a deliberate act of sabotage consistent with a broader Russian campaign to intimidate European allies and undermine support for Ukraine. Estonian authorities confirmed that the perpetrators of the attack have been identified and detained. In response to the findings, Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna summoned Russia's chargé d'affaires.

Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson described the case as "extremely serious," stating that the aim of such attacks is to weaken support for Ukraine and intimidate Europe, though he added, "It will not work." Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kęstutis Budrys supported the attribution, asserting that "Russia’s fingerprints are all over" the attack and that hostile activities do not stop at Ukraine’s border. The Russian embassy in Tallinn did not immediately respond to requests for comment, though Russia has consistently denied allegations of hybrid activities in Europe.
