Early Results Show Frontrunners in Hawai‘i and Oregon Elections
Preliminary vote counts show early leaders in Hawai‘i County Council races and several undecided local contests across Oregon following the 2026 midterm elections.
Preliminary results from the 2026 midterm elections indicate early frontrunners in several local races across Hawai‘i and Oregon. In Hawai‘i County, Jon Henricks, the County Clerk, reported that early printouts show Eileen O’Hara leading in District 4, Ikaika Rodenhurst leading in District 5, and Zed Ka‘apana Aki leading in District 6. These candidates are competing for seats vacated by Michelle Galimba and term-limited members Ashley Kierkiewicz and Matt Kaneali‘i-Kleinfelder. Henricks noted that the State of Hawai‘i Office of Elections will finalize these results in approximately two weeks.
In Oregon, the Associated Press has called all statewide elections, confirming reelection victories for U.S. Senator Jeff Merkley and U.S. Representative Val Hoyle. However, several local races remain undecided. In Lane County, Heather Buch holds a slim lead for East Commissioner Position 5, while Kori Rodley and Shelly Boshart Davis lead their respective races for the Oregon State House in the 7th and 15th Districts.
City-level contests in Oregon also show early leaders, with Athena Aguiar leading for Eugene City Council's Ward 5 seat and Charles Maughan leading the mayoral race in Corvallis. Eugene voters are also currently passing Measure 20-388, a proposal to finance a clean energy fund through a 2% fee on large retailers.
