Lime CEO Wayne Ting Leads Company to $1.7 Billion IPO

Lime CEO Wayne Ting led the e-scooter company to a $1.7 billion initial public offering in July following his recovery from a serious stroke.

CEO Wayne Ting led Lime to a $1.7 billion initial public offering in July, raising approximately $167 million. The milestone followed a period of personal health challenges for Ting, who underwent brain surgery last year after suffering a serious stroke.

Ting attributes the company's growth to a strategic shift away from a win-at-all-costs corporate culture, alongside improvements in unit economics and the introduction of redesigned hardware built to last over five years. This stability contrasts with the trajectory of chief rival Bird Global, which filed for bankruptcy in late 2023.

Lime's market position is bolstered by Uber Technologies Inc., which owns roughly 25% of the company and integrates Lime scooters directly into its application. While Lime's stock price experienced a rise in the late summer, it has since returned to its initial listing valuation of $1.7 billion. The company continues to see significant growth in mature markets, including San Francisco, where it is growing 100% year-over-year.
