McKinsey Reports Diversification of India's Economic Growth Drivers
McKinsey & Company identifies banking, auto components, e-commerce, and private markets as the primary drivers of India's diversifying economic growth through 2030.
McKinsey & Company released a series of reports identifying a broadening of India's economic growth beyond traditional drivers. The consulting firm highlights banking, auto components, e-commerce, and private markets as the primary areas of opportunity for the nation's next growth phase.
Indian banks reached a decade-high return on assets of 1.4% in fiscal 2025. However, the firm warns that the sector faces headwinds from margin pressure and unsecured retail lending stress. In the manufacturing sector, auto components are projected to grow 7-8% annually through 2030, supported by exports and electrification.
Digital commerce and private capital are also expanding. E-commerce market share could reach 11% by 2030, with direct-to-consumer commerce potentially growing to $60 billion. Between 2021 and 2025, private equity and venture capital activity increased 1.6 times to reach $207 billion.
