Kirsten Gillibrand Convenes First Congressional Hearing on Menopause Care

Senator Kirsten Gillibrand is convening the first congressional hearing on menopause through the Senate Committee on Aging. Titled "Half the Country, Zero Hearings: Meeting the Moment to End the Menopause Care Gap in America," the session focuses on the lack of federal research funding and the inability of medical professionals to effectively treat menopause symptoms.

Gillibrand argues that menopause care is a critical component of health care and has criticized the Trump administration for reducing medical research funding and removing black box warnings from estrogen-based hormone replacement products. She intends to push for bipartisan legislation to increase federal investment in research to support an estimated 75 million people affected by menopause.

In coordination with Republican Senator Rick Scott, Gillibrand is requesting a study from the Government Accountability Office to evaluate the federal government's role in menopause care.
