Ron DeSantis Renames Hurricane Isaias to Isaiah
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis announced he will call Hurricane Isaias Isaiah to avoid mispronouncing the storm's name during emergency preparations.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis announced on Thursday that he will refer to Hurricane Isaias as Isaiah to avoid mispronouncing the storm's name. During a news conference, DeSantis stated that the correct Spanish pronunciation of Isaias is "not normal" and "weird," noting that he would rather use the name Isaiah than continue "butchering" the original name during the next 72 hours of storm preparations.
DeSantis made these comments while discussing a Florida appeals court decision that overturned portions of a grand jury report regarding the alleged misuse of taxpayer funds for the Hope Florida program. He described the court's ruling as "the biggest judicial smackdown I have ever seen."
