Lockheed Martin Awards L3Harris $6 Billion THAAD Production Contract

Lockheed Martin awarded L3Harris Technologies an undefinitized contract valued at over $6 billion over seven years to expand production of propulsion subsystems for the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) ballistic missile interceptor system. The agreement follows a strategic framework with the U.S. Department of Defense to quadruple production throughput to address depleted interceptor stockpiles and rising global security threats.

L3Harris will construct a new solid rocket boost motor manufacturing facility and expand production lines for Liquid Divert and Attitude Control Systems (DACS). These expansions will take place at sites in Huntsville, Alabama; Los Angeles, California; and Camden, Arkansas, to support elevated interceptor deliveries through 2033.

Because the contract is undefinitized, the two companies will finalize definitive pricing and delivery schedules in the coming months. Ken Bedingfield, President of Missile Solutions at L3Harris Technologies, stated that the contract demonstrates the company's ability to deliver critical defense technologies at the scale and speed required by the Department of War.
