Darden Copeland Wins Democratic Primary for Tennessee 7th District

Businessman and political operative Darden Copeland won the Democratic primary for Tennessee's 7th Congressional District, defeating state Representative Vincent Dixie and former Metro Nashville Council member Saletta Holloway. Copeland will now challenge Republican incumbent U.S. Representative Matt Van Epps in the November general election.

The race occurs after the Republican-controlled state legislature redistricted the area, shifting boundaries to increase the Republican baseline to R+20. While Van Epps secured the seat in December with support from Donald Trump and outside PACs, internal polling from the Copeland campaign indicates the general election remains competitive, placing the candidates within five percentage points of each other.

Following the results, Vincent Dixie criticized the election process, stating that not everything was "above board" and expressing concern that redistricting diluted Black voting power.
