The Washington State Department of Labor & Industries will increase the state minimum wage to $17.73 per hour starting January 1, 2027.
The Washington State Department of Labor & Industries announced that the state minimum wage will increase by 60 cents to $17.73 per hour effective January 1, 2027. This adjustment represents a 3.5 percent increase over the current rate of $17.13 and is the largest increase the state has seen in recent years.
While the state establishes the baseline, several local governments are implementing higher rates to address inflation in more expensive urban areas. Seattle announced it will raise its local minimum wage by 60 cents to $18.39 per hour starting next year. These adjustments target residents in cities such as Seattle, Tacoma, and Bellevue, where inflation levels currently exceed the national average.
