Portugal Records 1.3 Billion Euro Budget Surplus

The National Institute of Statistics reported that Portugal's public administrations recorded a budget surplus of 1,325 million euros, representing 1.6% of GDP, in the second quarter of 2026. This figure marks a slight decrease from the 1.7% of GDP recorded during the same period in the previous year.

Financial data for the quarter shows that total revenue increased by 6.9%, while total expenditure rose by 7% compared to the same period last year. For the first half of 2026, the balance in national accounts stood at 0.5% of GDP.

The National Institute of Statistics noted that capital injections and debt assumptions during this period were destined for entities in the UC sector and did not impact the aggregate balance.
