Intel Shares Fluctuate Amid Terafab Project and Market Pressure
Intel Corporation shares experienced volatility following clarifications on the Terafab AI chip project and reports of increased competition from Nvidia in the PC market.
Shares of Intel Corporation fluctuated sharply between October 7 and October 8, 2026, driven by shifting sentiment regarding the Terafab AI chip complex in Texas. On October 7, the stock rose 1% to $113.5 after Elon Musk confirmed that Tesla and SpaceX would build and operate the facility, ruling out ownership by TSMC. This clarification eased investor fears that Intel would be displaced as the project's exclusive manufacturing development partner, a role it has held since April 2026. During this period, CEO Lip-Bu Tan reaffirmed the partnership with Musk, and Intel announced a collaboration with Applied Materials to develop next-generation AI transistor and packaging technologies.
However, the stock fell 5.3% to a low of $105.24 on October 8. This decline was attributed to sector-wide pressure from rising oil prices and yields, which also affected AMD and Nvidia. Market anxiety resurfaced as reports suggested TSMC might sublease part of the Terafab facility, despite Lip-Bu Tan confirming Intel's continued involvement. Competitive pressure intensified further following reports that Microsoft's new flagship laptop utilizes Nvidia processors instead of Intel's. Investors are now focusing on Intel's third-quarter results, scheduled for release on October 29, with a specific emphasis on gross margins.
