China Warns Philippines Over Proposed Taiwan Cooperation
Mao Ning of the Chinese Foreign Ministry demanded the Philippines abide by the one-China principle after reports of proposed cooperation with Taiwan.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China issued a warning to the Philippines on October 22, 2026, regarding the latter's diplomatic relations with Taiwan. The statement followed reports that the Philippines Department of the Interior and Local Government was exploring deeper cooperation with Taiwan to address gray zone activities.
Mao Ning, a spokesperson for the ministry, stated that there is no "gray area" on the Taiwan question. She demanded that the Philippines demonstrate its commitment to the one-China principle through concrete actions.
Mao Ning further asserted that any external exchanges involving Taiwan must be handled in strict accordance with the one-China principle, signaling Beijing's opposition to the proposed security or diplomatic coordination between Manila and Taipei.
