Brakspear Brewery Seeks New Operator for The Chequers Pub

Brakspear Brewery is seeking a new operator for The Chequers, a Grade II listed village pub in Berrick Salome, Oxfordshire. The brewery is offering a five-year tenancy agreement with a rent of £32,500 and a full wet tie, targeting a proactive operator who can maintain the venue's reputation for home-cooked food.

The search for a new tenant comes shortly after a period of transition and investment. In December 2025, Hannah Dickinson acquired the pub as part of her Copper Pubs portfolio, replacing former manager John Thirlaway. Dickinson's team conducted a major refurbishment of the establishment with the goal of transforming it into a "foodie destination."

Despite these efforts, the pub has changed hands again, leading to the current advertisement by Brakspear to secure a new operator capable of sustaining the venue as a destination dining location.
