Israel Rescues 10 Civilians From Prohibited Area A Zone
Israel Defense Forces and Border Police rescued 10 civilians who entered Qalqilya illegally to locate a stolen motorcycle.
The Israel Defense Forces and Border Police rescued 10 Israeli civilians from the Palestinian city of Qalqilya on Monday evening. The group had entered Area A, a zone under full Palestinian Authority control, using four vehicles to search for a motorcycle stolen from the settlement of Elad the previous Sunday.
Local residents surrounded the vehicles, creating a situation that police officials stated narrowly averted a lynching. Security forces intervened to disperse the crowd and evacuate the group. One individual reportedly refused to leave until the motorcycle was found, despite warnings from Civil Administration officers; this same person had been extracted from Qalqilya in a similar incident the preceding Saturday.
Following the operation, the Border Police recovered the stolen motorcycle. The rescued civilians were detained for questioning due to the legal prohibition against entering Area A. The incident occurred amid increased security reinforcements in the seam zone as the Israeli government manages tensions following a decision to establish 103 new settlements.
