Conservative Party of BC Sweeps All 10 Surrey Ridings

The Conservative Party of BC won a majority government and captured every provincial riding in Surrey, completely removing the New Democratic Party from the region.

The Conservative Party of BC secured a majority government in Victoria following the provincial election on October 24, 2026. In a decisive regional shift, the party won all 10 ridings in Surrey, effectively removing the New Democratic Party from the area. Key victories included Jessy Sahota in Surrey-Serpentine River, Harj Dhaliwal in Surrey-Newton, and Nicholas Cartmell in Surrey-Cloverdale, while incumbent Bryan Tepper retained his seat in Surrey-Panorama. Garry Thind won the Surrey-Guildford riding, defeating NDP incumbent Garry Begg.

The sweep follows an early election call by NDP leader David Eby and a period of internal party conflict. With the victory, Premier-elect Lorne Doerkson faces immediate pressure to fulfill specific campaign promises made to Surrey voters. These include extending the SkyTrain to Newton Town Centre from Whalley and constructing a new Women and Children’s Hospital in Surrey to reduce the need for families to travel to Vancouver for specialized care.

Legislatively, the new government has pledged to repeal the Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act and Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity policies. Economic commitments include cutting individual taxes by $1,000 by raising the basic personal tax exemption to $32,000, eliminating the PST on business investments for three years, and implementing a two-for-one regulation reduction law to cut red tape. The government also committed to approving major new capital projects within 120 days.
