Villa Vie Residences Suspends Odyssey Cruise Over Fuel Costs
Villa Vie Residences suspended operations of its residential cruise ship in Cambodia, ordering passengers to disembark while the company seeks restructuring and recapitalization.
Florida-based Villa Vie Residences suspended operations of its residential cruise ship, the Villa Vie Odyssey, in Cambodia on October 27, 2026. The company ordered 203 passengers of 15 different nationalities to disembark from the vessel, which had been docked at the Sihanoukville Autonomous Port since October 23.
CEO Kathy Villalba cited unsustainable fuel cost increases in Asia as the primary cause, reporting that monthly expenses per cabin surged from an average of $1,800 to between $6,000 and $8,000. The company attributed this spike to global energy price volatility following the war with Iran. Villa Vie Residences stated that slowing itineraries and increasing port time were insufficient to offset these losses, noting that "passing the full increase on to residents is not a realistic solution."
While the company focuses on restructuring and recapitalization over the next 60 days, other reports suggest a deeper financial crisis. The company previously sought a $3 million emergency loan in April and requested additional payments of $360,000 from residents. The Odyssey has also been the subject of a fraud lawsuit alleging the company misrepresented its financial stability. The company is currently coordinating temporary land-based lodging for residents, though it warned that no outcome for the voyage is assured.
