Latino Officials Demand $10 Million DGA Investment for Hinojosa
More than 70 Latino officials are pressuring DGA Chairman Andy Beshear to invest $10 million in Gina Hinojosa's Texas gubernatorial campaign.
More than 70 Latino officials have sent a letter to Andy Beshear, Governor of Kentucky and chairman of the Democratic Governors Association (DGA), demanding the organization invest $10 million in Gina Hinojosa's campaign for governor of Texas. Hinojosa is challenging incumbent Republican Governor Greg Abbott in a race marked by a steep funding disparity; Abbott has spent $68 million on advertising, while Hinojosa has spent $8.7 million.
Allies of Hinojosa, including Senator Ruben Gallego and Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham, are pressuring Beshear to increase financial support. These allies suggest that failing to back the bid could jeopardize Beshear's potential 2028 presidential run, specifically within Latino-heavy early-voting states.
Beshear has responded that the DGA is currently providing staff and paying expenses for the campaign. He maintains that his own presidential aspirations will not influence how the organization allocates its resources.
