Dine Brands Reports Mixed Q2 Results With IHOP Growth
Dine Brands reported increased second-quarter revenues to $240.9 million, though net income fell as IHOP growth offset declines at Applebee's.
Dine Brands reported mixed financial results for the second quarter ending June 28, with total revenues rising to $240.9 million from $230.8 million the previous year. Despite the revenue increase, net income dropped to $4.3 million, or $0.35 per share, down from $13.8 million, or $0.89 per share, in the same period last year.
Performance varied across the company's portfolio. IHOP outperformed the industry with 1.5% same-store sales growth, supported by a 22% increase in catering. Fuzzy's Taco Shop also delivered positive same-store sales. Conversely, Applebee's saw a 1.8% decline in same-store sales, although the company noted steady improvements over the last five quarters.
To address low consumer sentiment and high gas prices, the company is implementing a barbell-shaped pricing strategy that pairs premium offerings with value meals. Dine Brands is also expanding its dual-branded IHOPBees concept, having completed more than half of its goal to open 80 such locations by the end of 2026.
