General Dynamics Land Systems Completes $35 Million Michigan Facility Upgrade

General Dynamics Land Systems completed a $35 million modernization of its headquarters in Sterling Heights, Michigan, this summer. The nearly two-year project focused on improving employee collaboration, boosting morale, and expanding space for classified operations. This expansion allowed the company to consolidate 100 employees from a satellite office in Troy into the main facility.

During an August 19 celebration attended by Governor Gretchen Whitmer and Macomb County Executive Mark Hackel, President Dave Paddock detailed the company's regional economic footprint. Paddock noted that the firm maintains an annual payroll of $250 million and spends approximately $280 million annually with nearly 300 Michigan suppliers. He emphasized that the company has delivered over 25,000 combat vehicles, including the Abrams and Stryker, to protect soldiers and Marines.

While full-scale manufacturing takes place in Ohio, the Sterling Heights site serves as the hub for design, logistics, and engineering. Company officials highlighted that the renovation was achieved without the use of tax incentives. Local leaders, including Sterling Heights City Manager Mark Vanderpool, noted the company's significance as a primary local taxpayer and employer.
