Over 200,000 Protest in Amsterdam Demanding Sanctions on Israel
Tens of thousands of demonstrators marched in Amsterdam to demand the Dutch government halt arms sales and sever all military and economic ties with Israel.
Over 200,000 people gathered at Museum Square and marched through Amsterdam on Sunday, November 8, 2026, for the fourth Red Line protest. Organized by a coalition of approximately 150 groups, including Amnesty International, Oxfam Novib, and Pax, the demonstrators demanded a total halt on arms sales to Israel, stricter trade sanctions, and an official declaration that Israel's actions in Gaza constitute genocide.
Organizers argued that the Dutch government has failed to act against what they termed war crimes and an illegal occupation, insisting the state maximize diplomatic pressure and implement International Court of Justice rulings. In response, Prime Minister Rob Jetten defended his minority coalition government, stating the administration is exerting political and diplomatic pressure on both Israel and Hamas to follow Gaza agreements.
Foreign Minister Tom Berendsen also rejected claims of government inaction. Both Jetten and Berendsen pointed to a September ban on imports from Israeli settlements as evidence of the state's response, a move that has already caused diplomatic tension with Israel.
