Former Mayor Jim Schmitt Enters Green Bay Mayoral Race
Former Mayor Jim Schmitt officially launched his campaign for Green Bay mayor after incumbent Eric Genrich announced he will not seek re-election.
Green Bay Mayor Eric Genrich announced he will not seek re-election, triggering a race for the mayoral seat on April 6. Former Mayor Jim Schmitt, who served four terms from 2003 to 2019, is the only candidate to officially enter the race. Schmitt intends to prioritize economic development and homelessness, specifically calling for agencies in that sector to be held accountable for remaining open year-round.
Other potential candidates are weighing their options before the January 5 nomination deadline. City Council President Alyssa Proffitt stated she is strongly considering a run for the office. State Representative Amaad Rivera-Wagner, a former chief of staff to Genrich, is also a potential contender. Rivera-Wagner indicated he will make a public decision regarding his candidacy following his own re-election vote on November 3.
A primary election is scheduled for February if more than two candidates officially enter the race.
