Abdul El-Sayed Asks Hasan Piker to Temper Rhetoric
Democratic Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed requested streamer Hasan Piker reduce his rhetoric to avoid losing votes in a tight Michigan race against Mike Rogers.
Democratic candidate Abdul El-Sayed contacted streamer Hasan Piker to request that Piker cease or temper his current rhetoric, warning that the commentary was costing the campaign votes. The interaction has drawn criticism from opponents who claim El-Sayed is attempting to hide shared beliefs until after the election, citing a previous pool party the two attended together as evidence of a close relationship.
El-Sayed, who won the August primary against a moderate opponent, has also reportedly reduced attacks on the American Israel Public Affairs Committee following urging from Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel. Nessel previously opposed El-Sayed in the primary over concerns regarding antisemitism and her own safety, but she has since pledged her support for him in the general election to provide a check against Donald Trump.
Currently holding a narrow lead over Republican Mike Rogers in polling from Quantus Insights, YouGov, and Mitchell Research and Communications, El-Sayed announced that former President Barack Obama will join his campaign in Detroit on October 24. Meanwhile, El-Sayed's campaign has denied reports from the Washington Free Beacon suggesting he previously claimed dual citizenship in the United States and Egypt, attributing the claim to misinformation from relatives.
