President Droupadi Murmu addressed the nation on August 14, 2026, on the eve of India's 80th Independence Day, outlining a roadmap for a developed India, or Viksit Bharat, by 2047. Broadcast via Akashvani and Doordarshan, the speech emphasized that the benefits of development must reach every citizen to ensure all can fulfill their aspirations.

On national security, Murmu defended the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty with Pakistan, calling it a decisive step in the national interest and a benefit to farmers. She praised the Armed Forces of India for Operation Sindoor, which involved precision strikes against terror networks following an attack in Pahalgam. Murmu warned that terrorists and their supporters would face consequences regardless of where they hide.

Addressing domestic issues, the President announced comprehensive government reforms to the public examination system to eliminate paper leaks and cheating following recent student-led protests. She highlighted social and economic milestones, including lifting over 25 crore people out of poverty, achieving the Lakhpati Didi target for women's empowerment, and the inclusion of Sarnath in the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Murmu noted that India's economy is projected to grow at more than twice the average global rate, supported by the Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan. She also praised India's digital revolution, stating the country possesses the world's best digital infrastructure and leads in real-time digital transactions.
