Dan McCoy Proposes 2027 Albany County Budget With Tax Cut
Albany County Executive Dan McCoy proposed a $950 million budget for 2027 that would lower property taxes for the 13th consecutive year.
Albany County Executive Dan McCoy proposed a $950 million budget for 2027 that would reduce the property tax rate from $2.56 to $2.48 per $1,000 of assessed value. This proposal marks the 13th consecutive year of tax decreases for the county.
Although the budget increases overall spending by $45 million, it remains balanced by utilizing a $25 million withdrawal from the general fund balance and staying below the state tax cap. McCoy attributed the limited size of the tax cut to rising pension and insurance costs, along with $25 million in unfunded mandates caused by federal cuts to Medicaid and SNAP.
Republican County Legislator Frank Mauriello criticized state Democrats for the mandates and called for a larger tax cut for residents. The budget also notes that the county has not issued bonds for infrastructure for four straight years and includes updates on the redevelopment of the former College of Saint Rose campus.
