UN Women Report Details Rising Conflict Violence Against Women
UN Women reports a doubling of female civilian deaths in conflicts since 2021 and calls for women's inclusion in peace negotiations.
A report released by UN Women on October 26, 2026, details a sharp increase in the impact of armed conflict on women and girls. The data shows that women and girls accounted for one in four of the 37,000 civilians killed in conflicts last year, a proportion that has doubled since 2021. The United Nations verified 9,788 cases of conflict-related sexual violence in 2025, more than twice the number recorded the previous year.
The report highlights severe regional crises, including a 300 percent increase in miscarriages in Gaza resulting from the collapse of healthcare and a 163 percent rise in reported sexual violence in Haiti. In Afghanistan, the organization describes a severe rights crisis where girls are denied education.
Despite these trends, women remain largely excluded from diplomatic solutions, comprising only five percent of negotiators across 57 peace processes in 2025. UN Women is calling for an end to wars and the upholding of international law, urging the international community to bring women into peace negotiations as decision-makers.
