Gen Z Entrepreneurs Use AI to Scale Trade Businesses
Young entrepreneurs are leveraging AI and social media to build profitable blue-collar businesses in junk removal and landscaping as alternatives to college.
Young entrepreneurs are utilizing artificial intelligence and social media to scale blue-collar businesses, signaling a shift in how Gen Z approaches entrepreneurship. Carter Grandbois, 18, founded Carter’s Junk Away and developed a self-coded pricing calculator to ensure profitability, reaching monthly billings of $15,000 during peak seasons.
Similarly, 20-year-old Levi Boyd, CEO of Algo Landscaping, grew his annual revenue to $323,000 by using Instagram and AI to secure commercial contracts and mentor other contractors. These individual successes align with broader trends; data from Jobber indicates that 77% of Gen Z workers aspire to own businesses, with 46% viewing the trades as the primary path over traditional college degrees.
While some workforce experts express concern over a lack of direction and loyalty among younger workers, leaders in trade schools and software development argue that social media has democratized entrepreneurial knowledge. This digital shift provides a viable alternative to four-year degrees by allowing young workers to automate operations and acquire clients more efficiently.
