Saudi Forces Intercept Houthi Ballistic Missile Aimed at Riyadh

Saudi forces destroyed a Houthi ballistic missile targeting Riyadh as the Coalition to Restore Legitimacy in Yemen targeted Houthi weapons smuggling operations.

The Military of Saudi Arabia intercepted and destroyed a ballistic missile launched by Houthi militias toward Riyadh on Tuesday. The National Early Warning Platform issued a danger warning shortly before the interception, and residents reported hearing two blasts in the capital. The Saudi Civil Defense lifted the alert minutes later, stating that the danger had passed.

Simultaneously, the Coalition to Restore Legitimacy in Yemen targeted Houthi weapons smuggling operations off the coast of Yemen. The Coalition Joint Forces Command warned that the use of traditional vessels to transport missiles and military equipment threatens both regional and international security.

In response to the escalation, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi requested parliamentary authorization to provide military support to Saudi Arabia. The Egyptian parliament extended discussions on the nature and cost of this support until October 26. Meanwhile, the Foreign Ministers of the United Arab Emirates and Turkey held calls with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah to condemn the Houthi attacks on civilian areas.
