Chennai Police File Cases Against DMK Leaders Over Defamatory Remarks

Police in Chennai registered multiple cases against senior leaders of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) following derogatory remarks made during party protests on September 12. The legal actions target MP A Raja, MLA P K Sekar Babu, and MLA Vasantham Karthikeyan.

The confrontation began after Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay delivered a speech in the state assembly containing remarks about DMK president M K Stalin. In response, the DMK organized statewide protests to condemn the Chief Minister's statements.

During these demonstrations, P K Sekar Babu allegedly made defamatory comments about Chief Minister Vijay, leading to a case at the B1 North Beach Police Station. Similarly, A Raja faces charges at the Saidapet station for allegedly using obscene words in public and insulting the Chief Minister. A separate complaint filed by a Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) functionary also alleges that Raja made derogatory remarks about Energy Resources and Law Minister R Nirmal Kumar.

These developments mark an intensifying political conflict between the ruling TVK and the opposition DMK, characterized by a cycle of provocative assembly speeches and retaliatory public protests.
