Greenwich Bank Opens First Commercial Branches in Lagos
Greenwich Bank Limited opened three commercial branches in Lagos following a regulatory transition from merchant banking to regional commercial banking.
Greenwich Bank Limited opened its first three commercial banking branches in Lagos on October 2, 2026, with locations in Surulere, Ikoyi, and Victoria Island. The expansion follows a transition from a merchant bank to a commercial bank with regional authorization, which the Central Bank of Nigeria approved in August 2026.
The new license enables the bank to provide services to retail customers, public-sector institutions, and small and medium-sized enterprises. Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu commissioned the Ikoyi branch and stated that the bank's entry into the state's financial ecosystem is "very important to the business enterprise of the state."
Following the Lagos launch, the bank plans to expand into the Federal Capital Territory and other areas across the South-West, South-South, and North-West regions, including Akure and Ado-Ekiti. The institution intends to pursue a national banking license in the medium term, combining physical branch growth with digital banking strategies.
