UniSuper Avoids Data Center Investments Amid AI Boom

UniSuper is avoiding direct investments in data centers, arguing that AI's primary beneficiaries will be technology users rather than infrastructure builders.

UniSuper, one of Australia's largest pension funds, is steering clear of direct investments in data centers despite the global surge in artificial intelligence. Chief Investment Officer John Pearce stated that the primary beneficiaries of AI will be companies that utilize the technology rather than those constructing the underlying infrastructure.

This strategic stance follows a significant market downturn for the sector. Shares of data-center operator Nextdc Ltd. plummeted 42% on Wednesday after the company issued a profit warning. Nextdc attributed the slump to delays in securing power and increasing community opposition to its projects.
