Ukraine Codifies Tsyklop Drone and Deploys AI Interceptors

The Ministry of Defence of Ukraine formally codified the Tsyklop interceptor drone, a one-way aircraft designed to destroy Russian reconnaissance and strike UAVs. The system employs a gravity-assisted dive attack from high altitudes to neutralize threats. The V2 variant, specifically developed for fast-moving Shahed drones, has destroyed over 100 targets, including the first Shahed down over Kursk Oblast. Tsyklop units have also intercepted Gerbera, Zala, and Lancet systems.

Alongside these efforts, Ukraine is deploying P1-Sun Long quad-copter interceptors equipped with an AI terminal guidance system. Trained on more than 10,000 interception videos, this AI allows the drones to detect and strike targets with higher precision than human operators. While primarily used to destroy Russian Geran attack drones, the technology is also being used for ground attacks against Russian supply trucks to disrupt the delivery of ammunition, medical equipment, food, and water.

These deployments support a broader strategic push by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine to expand domestic drone production, with goals of manufacturing between 10 million and 30 million units annually. This scale-up follows the codification of 413 unmanned aerial systems in the first half of 2026. These countermeasures address the threat of over 50,000 Iran-developed Shahed-type drones deployed by Russia since 2022.
