Palestinian Foreign Ministry Demands Sanctions Over Al-Mughayyir Siege

The Foreign Ministry of Palestine called on the international community on August 29, 2026, to implement concrete political, legal, and economic deterrents against Israeli forces and settlers in the occupied West Bank. The ministry specifically condemned a 20-day suffocating siege of the town of Al-Mughayyir, reporting that Israeli forces sealed entrance gates, restricted resident movement to two hours per day, and banned ambulances from entering the town.

These demands follow a Friday attack in Al-Mughayyir that injured three Palestinians and led to the detention of an ambulance transporting the wounded. The ministry alleged that the Israeli government provides weapons, protection, and legal cover for settler attacks, fueling extremism and racism. It characterized the siege as an attempt to militarily and economically isolate the town to force the displacement of its residents.

To address the escalation, the ministry demanded the activation of international judicial authority to prosecute perpetrators and the banning of settlement products from international markets. The ministry further called for an end to the occupation of Palestinian territories, including Jerusalem, to allow for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state based on the June 4, 1967 lines.
