Democrats Gain Ground in Republican States Ahead of Midterms

Democratic Senate candidates are seeing unexpected polling gains in traditionally Republican states while struggling to build leads in blue and purple states.

The Democratic Party is seeing unexpected polling gains in traditionally Republican states as the midterm election cycle enters its final weeks. Senate races in Alaska, Kansas, Nebraska, and Mississippi are polling closer than anticipated, despite those states having been won by Donald Trump by margins between 13 and 23 points in 2024.

This surge in red states is not mirrored in blue and purple regions. In New Hampshire, Maine, and Michigan, Democratic Senate candidates are polling within a few points of their opponents. This lack of momentum persists despite previous presidential victory margins for Kamala Harris in New Hampshire and Maine, and a narrow loss in Michigan.
