Turkey and Qatar Advance Eurofighter Jet Negotiations

The Turkish Defense Ministry is negotiating the purchase of Eurofighter Typhoon jets from Qatar to bolster its air fleet deterrence.

The Turkish Defense Ministry announced Thursday that negotiations with Qatar to purchase Eurofighter Typhoon fighter jets remain on track. Turkey is currently awaiting a draft sales contract and training program from Qatar, a process continuing despite regional instability caused by Iranian attacks on the Gulf state.

This procurement effort aims to strengthen Turkey's air fleet deterrence while the country awaits the delivery of 20 new Eurofighters ordered from the United Kingdom in October 2025. Those aircraft are not expected to arrive until 2030. The pursuit of Eurofighters follows Turkey's 2019 removal from the U.S. F-35 program after it purchased Russian S-400 missile systems.

As part of broader defense cooperation, Turkish Defense Minister Yasar Guler visited Doha on Wednesday to sign the Badr Memorandum of Understanding. This accord, signed alongside Qatar, Pakistan, and Indonesia, focuses on joint research, development, and infrastructure projects within the defense industry.
