Representative Brandon Gill Files Impeachment Resolution Against Judge James Boasberg
Representative Brandon Gill introduced an impeachment resolution against U.S. District Judge James Boasberg over alleged partisan conduct during the Arctic Frost investigation.
Brandon Gill, a U.S. Representative from Texas, introduced an impeachment resolution against U.S. District Judge James Boasberg. The resolution alleges partisan conduct by Boasberg during Arctic Frost, the special counsel investigation into Donald Trump and the 2020 election. Specifically, the effort cites Boasberg's issuance of subpoenas for the phone records of Republican legislators.
The House Freedom Caucus, including Chairman Andy Harris and Policy Chairman Chip Roy, expressed broad support for the move. Despite this support, caucus leadership indicated that fiscal issues currently take precedence over pressuring Speaker Mike Johnson to take immediate action on the resolution.
Representative Darrell Issa, who chairs the House Judiciary subcommittee on courts, cautioned against a rushed impeachment process. He suggested that the House and Senate instead hold hearings to define the legal standard of good behavior and evaluate potential violations by multiple judges. Issa indicated he is considering these hearings following the Thanksgiving recess.
