Apple Launches OS 27 Public Betas with Siri AI
Apple released public betas for iOS 27, macOS 27 Golden Gate, and other OS versions, introducing a Gemini-powered Siri AI and ending Intel Mac support.
Apple Inc. released the first public betas for iOS 27, macOS 27 Golden Gate, iPadOS 27, watchOS 27, tvOS 27, and HomePod Software 27 on July 14, 2026. The central update is the revamped Siri AI, which utilizes a partnership with Google to integrate Gemini models. This new system provides on-screen awareness and indexes personal data across apps like Mail, Messages, and Notes to perform multi-step actions and provide natural conversations.
MacOS 27 Golden Gate marks the company's official departure from Intel, as the operating system is incompatible with Intel Macs and requires Apple silicon. The update introduces a Liquid Glass user interface and a dedicated Siri AI app for document summarization and coding assistance in Xcode. iOS 27 includes AI-powered photo tools like Clean Up and Image Playground, though these and other Siri AI features are unavailable in the European Union due to the Digital Markets Act and in China due to regulatory disputes.
To address the Chinese market, Apple partnered with Alibaba Group and Baidu to integrate the Qwen model following approval from China's cyberspace regulator. WatchOS 27 introduces a dynamic app grid and expanded health tracking for perimenopause and menopause. Simultaneously, Apple released the fifth beta for 26.6 software versions to provide critical security patches against AI-powered exploits before the official fall 2026 launch of the 27-series updates.
