Delhi Anti-Corruption Branch Arrests Satyendar Jain in STP Scam

The Delhi Anti-Corruption Branch arrested former minister Satyendar Jain and five others for alleged corruption in Delhi Jal Board sewage treatment plant tenders.

The Delhi Anti-Corruption Branch arrested former Delhi Minister Satyendar Jain, former Delhi Jal Board CEO Udit Prakash Rai, and four others on August 18, 2026. The arrests follow an investigation into a criminal conspiracy to manipulate the tendering process for the augmentation and upgradation of sewage treatment plants. Authorities allege that tender conditions were restricted to favor Euroteck Environment Pvt Ltd, resulting in significant financial losses for the government. Investigators further claim Udit Prakash Rai received 1.52 crore rupees in bribes to purchase immovable property.

Following his arrest, Jain was produced in the Rouse Avenue Court on August 19. The case originated from a May 11, 2024, complaint filed by the Directorate of Vigilance. Aam Aadmi Party national convenor Arvind Kejriwal condemned the move as "political dictatorship," alleging that Union Home Minister Amit Shah pressured the agency to execute the arrest. Other party leaders, including Anurag Dhanda, argued the charges were baseless because Jain was in judicial custody during the period of the alleged irregularities.

Conversely, the Bharatiya Janata Party and Congress accused the Aam Aadmi Party of deceiving the public regarding the cleaning of the Yamuna river. BJP MP Swati Maliwal alleged that Kejriwal ran a "shop of corruption" for a decade and claimed Jain acted as a "collection agent" for the party in Punjab, extorting money from real estate developers.
