Qatar Airways and Hamad Airport Launch Fast Pass Biometrics
Qatar Airways and Hamad International Airport launched Fast Pass, a facial recognition system using over 700 touchpoints to streamline departures in Doha.
Qatar Airways and Hamad International Airport, in partnership with technology provider SITA, have launched Fast Pass, a facial recognition-based biometric service in Doha. The system integrates more than 700 touchpoints across the airport, making it one of the largest biometric processing deployments globally and in the Middle East.
Eligible passengers aged 18 and older with valid passports can use their faces as boarding credentials at self-service bag drop counters, automated security gates, and boarding gates. Travelers can enroll via a one-time pre-registration in the Qatar Airways app or at self-service kiosks located at Departures Row 3. While the service is optional and aims to reduce physical document checks, passengers must still carry passports for immigration and e-gates. The service is currently unavailable for passengers with disabilities.
Data protection protocols vary by registration method. Information collected at kiosks is deleted 24 hours after flight departure, while app-based data remains on the user's device. Hamad International Airport intends to expand the system to more touchpoints and other airlines as part of its Innovation Roadmap. Future plans include extending the service to transfer passengers and enabling verification beyond the airport premises.
