Shell-Led LNG Canada Venture Doubles Export Capacity

Shell plc and its partners in the LNG Canada venture have made a final investment decision to expand the liquefied natural gas export facility in Kitimat, British Columbia. The multibillion-dollar project will roughly double the plant's capacity, increasing output to 28 million metric tons per year.

This expansion follows a period of supply shocks affecting key customers in Asia. The facility first produced LNG in June 2025, and the venture now expects commercial operations for the second phase of the project to begin in the early 2030s.
