OpenAI Acquires Orchestra Bio to Accelerate Drug Development

OpenAI acquired Orchestra Bio to integrate AI agents into its Rosalind life sciences suite and shorten pharmaceutical development timelines.

OpenAI acquired Orchestra Bio, a startup specializing in AI agents that help pharmaceutical companies manage the drug development process. The company intends to merge Orchestra's technology and staff into Rosalind, its existing suite of AI models and tools designed for life sciences researchers.

The Orchestra platform allows scientists to use AI agents to monitor studies, track development timelines, and identify potential delays. OpenAI is pursuing this integration as part of a larger strategy to reduce the standard 10-to-15-year window required to bring new medicines to market.

This acquisition follows a similar move by competitor Anthropic, which purchased Coefficient Bio for approximately 400 million dollars in April and subsequently launched the Claude Science research platform in June. OpenAI did not disclose the financial terms of the Orchestra Bio deal.
