Novo Nordisk to Launch Wegovy Weight-Loss Pill in Germany

Novo Nordisk will launch its oral Wegovy GLP-1 weight-loss pill in the European Union, beginning with Germany in September. The Danish pharmaceutical company announced the rollout during its second-quarter results call on August 5, expanding the medication's availability following previous launches in the United States, the United Kingdom, and the United Arab Emirates.

The oral format has seen rapid adoption in other markets. In the United Kingdom, approximately 300,000 patients began using the pill within the first three weeks of its July launch. In the United States, the medication has already surpassed five million prescriptions.

The transition from injectable to oral therapies is expected to broaden patient access to GLP-1 medications. This shift may accelerate changes in consumer behavior toward more intentional consumption, which could impact sales volumes for food and beverage manufacturers.
