Canada Holds Diplomatic Meetings With Croatia and Bahamas in Toronto
Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand met with ministers from Croatia and The Bahamas to discuss Ukrainian recovery, Haiti's stability, and regional security.
Canadian Minister of Foreign Affairs Anita Anand conducted a series of bilateral meetings in Toronto on September 28 and 29, 2026, on the margins of the Second International Conference on Returning Ukrainian Children, Detained Civilians, and Prisoners of War.
In discussions with Croatian Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Gordan Grlić Radman, Anand reaffirmed joint support for Ukraine, focusing on assistance for Ukrainian veterans and Euro-Atlantic security through NATO. The two officials also explored expanding commercial ties, specifically regarding defense-industrial production and civil nuclear energy under an existing memorandum of understanding.
Anand subsequently met with The Bahamas' Minister of Foreign Affairs, Frederick Mitchell, to address the impacts of the war in Ukraine and regional security. During this meeting, Anand thanked Mitchell for the leadership of The Bahamas in supporting Haiti's political transition and the mobilization of the Gang Suppression Force. The ministers also discussed Canada-Caribbean Community (CARICOM) relations, with Canada committing to capacity-building initiatives to enhance maritime security and combat transnational organized crime and cybercrime in The Bahamas.
