Natarajan Chandrasekaran to Step Down as Tata Sons Chairman
Natarajan Chandrasekaran will resign as chairman of Tata Sons in February 2027 following a deadlock over his reappointment.
Natarajan Chandrasekaran announced he will step down as chairman of Tata Sons Pvt. when his term expires in February 2027. The decision follows a deadlock over a proposed five-year extension of his tenure, which was blocked by a single director.
Noel Tata, chairman of Tata Trusts, withheld support for the reappointment. He reportedly conditioned his support on demands that Chandrasekaran reduce debt, avoid a public listing of Tata Sons, and resolve ongoing disputes with the Shapoorji Pallonji Group.
The announcement precedes the August 18 annual general meeting and introduces leadership uncertainty for the conglomerate. This transition occurs as the group pursues capital-intensive initiatives, including semiconductor manufacturing. Following the news, shares of Tata Group companies, including Tata Consultancy Services Ltd., declined in Mumbai trading.
