Anwar Ibrahim Restores Fuel Subsidies to Ease Living Costs

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim announced the restoration of subsidized fuel quotas effective September 1 to reduce cost-of-living pressures for citizens. Under the new measures, the monthly subsidized gasoline quota increases from 200 to 300 liters for 16 million people, while the diesel quota rises from 300 to 400 liters for 500,000 users.

To further support small and medium enterprises, the government raised the mandatory e-invoicing threshold from 1 million to 3 million ringgit in annual sales. These economic adjustments follow recent electoral setbacks for Anwar's Pakatan Harapan coalition in Johor and Negeri Sembilan.

Simultaneously, the administration is intensifying anti-corruption efforts. The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission recently charged former Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob and former minister Saravanan Murugan. Anwar is expected to introduce a more comprehensive support package during the 2027 budget unveiling on October 9.
