DWP to Issue Winter Fuel Payments to Eligible Pensioners
The Department for Work and Pensions will distribute heating assistance payments to eligible pensioners in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland during November and December 2026.
The Department for Work and Pensions will distribute Winter Fuel Payments to eligible pensioners in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland throughout November and December 2026. Eligible recipients, generally those born on or before June 27, 1960, will receive between £100 and £300 to assist with heating costs, with the exact amount determined by age and living arrangements.
Most payments are processed automatically, and the agency will send notification letters in October or November. However, HM Revenue and Customs will reclaim these payments from individuals with a total individual income exceeding £35,000 through Self Assessment returns or tax code adjustments.
Residents of Scotland are ineligible for this specific payment but may qualify for the separate Pension Age Winter Heating Payment. The government has issued warnings to pensioners to remain vigilant against scams that request personal or banking information through unofficial or unexpected communications.
