Apple Cuts Fitness+ Staff Amid Broader Workforce Restructuring
Apple Inc. laid off employees from its Fitness+ audio team following August cuts to Vision Pro and Siri units to realign business priorities.
Apple Inc. reduced a small number of positions within its Fitness+ team during the third week of September 2026, specifically targeting staff responsible for guided audio workouts like Time to Walk and Time to Run. While the company is not discontinuing the service, new audio content is expected to be released less frequently.
These cuts mark the second round of layoffs in less than two months. In August 2026, Apple eliminated more than 200 positions across the Vision Pro organization, Siri, and the Intelligent Systems Experience unit. The company stated the August restructuring was part of a move to realign teams to evolve its business and deliver better user experiences.
Services chief Eddy Cue and health chief Sumbul Desai are currently evaluating Fitness+ due to high production costs and subscriber churn. Internal speculation suggests these layoffs may precede more drastic cost-cutting measures or the integration of Fitness+ into a redesigned Health app, which may be updated to include health-related video content. Separately, Apple continues to develop a Siri AI-powered home hub as a central part of its home strategy.
