TUI Cuts Free Long-Haul Economy Drinks Starting November
TUI is limiting complimentary alcoholic beverages for long-haul economy passengers to one drink per meal starting November 1, 2026.
TUI Group will limit complimentary alcoholic beverages for economy passengers on long-haul flights starting November 1, 2026. Under the new policy, passengers will receive only one free beer or wine served with their main meal, while all other alcoholic drinks must be purchased. Non-alcoholic beverages will remain free throughout the flight, and services in premium cabins will not be affected.
To mitigate passenger frustration, the company is offering a £12.50 goodwill refund per adult for each flight segment for bookings departing after the November deadline. Travelers have criticized the move as "ridiculous," arguing that the refund does not sufficiently cover the cost of additional drinks at onboard prices.
TUI stated the change allows the company to maintain competitive fares and provide more flexibility in onboard spending. Simultaneously, data from the Civil Aviation Authority identified TUI Airways as one of the least punctual airlines for UK departures in 2025, averaging delays of over 20 minutes. TUI Group defended its record, asserting that it prioritizes operating delayed flights over cancellations to ensure passengers reach their destinations.
