Liberia Urges Two-State Solution at UN Security Council

The Government of Liberia reaffirmed its support for a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict during diplomatic engagements and a United Nations Security Council meeting in New York on September 28 and 29, 2026. Representing the government, Political Coordinator Prutus Sackie stated that a durable settlement requires Israel and Palestine to coexist as independent states within secure and recognized borders.

Sackie called for the full implementation of the 2024 International Court of Justice Advisory Opinion regarding the Occupied Palestinian Territory and UN Security Council Resolution 2803. Adopted in November 2025, Resolution 2803 established a framework for reconstruction and transitional administration in Gaza, including a temporary International Stabilization Force. Liberia emphasized that these stabilization efforts must support Palestinian self-determination and statehood rather than replace it.

Liberia urged all parties to avoid unilateral actions that alter conditions on the ground. Sackie noted that while a peaceful resolution remains attainable through sustained diplomacy, the window of opportunity for a viable settlement is narrowing. This position aligns with Liberia's historical support for the 1947 UN General Assembly Resolution 181 regarding the partition of Mandatory Palestine.
