ICPC Warns Borno INEC Officials Against 2027 Election Corruption

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission warned Borno State electoral officials against manipulating results ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) conducted a sensitisation workshop in Maiduguri on Wednesday to warn officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) against electoral corruption and result manipulation. The initiative aims to secure the integrity of the upcoming 2027 general elections.

Resident Anti-Corruption Commissioner Linus Gubbi told officials that the credibility of elections depends on the character and compliance of those conducting them. He identified the abuse of office, collection of inducements, and the manipulation of results as corrupt practices that erode public trust and undermine peace. Gubbi warned that individuals engaging in these activities would face sanctions.

Sadiq Grema, the Head of General Administration for INEC in Borno State, praised the collaboration between the two agencies. He stated that the training provided him with knowledge of issues he previously did not know existed.
