UK Approves One Earth Solar Farm to Power 200,000 Homes

The UK government approved the One Earth Solar Farm across Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire, marking the 30th major clean energy project consented since July 2024.

The Government of the United Kingdom approved the development of the One Earth Solar Farm on July 8, 2026. The project, developed by PS Renewables Limited and Perigus Energy, will occupy nearly 4,000 acres of land near South Clifton and the River Trent, spanning the border of Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire.

Once completed, the facility is expected to produce up to 740 MW of renewable energy, providing power to more than 200,000 homes annually. The infrastructure will connect to the High Marnham substation and integrate battery storage and environmental enhancement areas. Construction is expected to take two years, with a projected completion date in 2029.

Energy Secretary Ed Miliband and the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero granted the development consent order as part of a strategy to decarbonize the electricity grid by 2030 and reduce reliance on volatile fossil fuel markets. This approval follows planning reforms via the Planning and Infrastructure Act intended to accelerate major infrastructure projects. Despite concerns from local residents regarding noise and pollution, the project is designated as the second largest solar farm in the United Kingdom.
